However, O'Chunks attempts to hold the ceiling up to allow the four heroes to escape. However, Bowser stays behind to assist O'Chunks. The three heroes (Mario, Luigi and Peach) leave the room and it is assumed that the ceiling falls down upon the other two. To answer your question, yes, Bowser has technically saved Mario on several occasions and has even helped Mario to save the Mushroom Kingdom (Super Paper Mario (although that was saving the dimension) Super Mario RPG and even in Bowser's Inside Story (although that was technically Mario helping Bowser))
