There's a legend in the land, many of us know, a legend that began back in (1850)eighteen five oh, bout a guy who went west who was 20 years old, made a pair of pants for a dude digging gold, used the best of cotton, sewed double stitched seams, put rivets in the pockets and called them blue jeans. Word of what he'd done spread quick from house to house, cause the diggers kind of dug our boys levis' strauss. Today you get Strauss in many different styles, mister Strauss smiles, legendary smiles, long long ago when the legend began, the legend that began because Levi is the man who put rivets in the pockets sewed double stitch seams, made them out of cotton and called them blue jeans. Levi's, a legend..... yeah. Savage

Jacob Youphes (Jacob Davis) invented them in 1870s using copper harness rivets to keep pocket and strain points strong. Levi Strauss put up money for patent and to set up production of waist overalls but never liked them only did it for business reasons. Employes of Levi Strauss never were allowed to wear waist overalls or jeans in office"s until the 1970s then only Levis sport coats and suites then in 1980 dockers. Jacob Davis ran the factory's till his death 1909. His grandson started in 1935 Ben Davis workware with the Big Ben gorilla logo still in business to day in San Francisco California.1873
The material we know as denim, which jeans are made from, has been around for hundreds of years. The crew in 1492 who sailed with Columbus wore a type of jean. The style of jean we know today dates to 1850 when a tailor in the gold camps of CA during the Gold Rush added brads to the seams on his pants. Because of the dirt and water the material would tear at the seams, so adding brads made them stronger. His name was Levi Strauss and his company still makes jeans today. In the 1940's jeans became popular because of Marlo Brando wearing them in a film called a Rebel Without a Cause. This movie did a great deal to push jeans as a statement of rebellion among the youth. Yet, it wasn't until the last 10 years or so that they have been accepted as everyday wear and as fashion.
