WW II was such an enormously destructive and horrible experience for the world as a whole, that there was great international support for the creation of an international agency for the purpose of preventing war. We may note that unfortunately, there have been lots of wars since the creation of the UN in 1945, but the UN has nonetheless been helpful in many cases.
