Have 2006 Jeep Liberty 3.7 and the AC will only come on in the 4 position what could be causing it and how can you fix it?

Had a similar problem with a GM car. It may be that the AC works but the fan switch only blows air when it is on the 4th position. It usually means the resistor (located in the heater box behind the glove box on most cars) may need replacing. The high fan speed position is usually on a different circuit than the lower speeds on this resistor. The job can be done if you can locate the part at a good price and have the dexterity to get in and out of the tight position (I'm told the glove box should come out). With an '06 Liberty if you are still in warranty (<36,000 miles) I would definitely have the dealer replace it.
