You may keep both browsers without any conflicts. Many who prefer Firefox will seldom use IE but keep IE available within the Control Panel for the oft necessary MS Updates, Patches and Hotfixes. MS makes these available only through IE (Surprised?). Yes, I have Firefox 2, Fiefox 3, Internet Explorer 7, Safari, DINT, Opera, OperaUSB and a few others... The only reason I don't delete IE is because I'm not an Admin.
Both IE and Firefox have methods for stopping popups. Which ever one you're using, use their Help.
Had this problem off and on for years. Finally switched to Mozilla Firefox for my browser. All prior problems of IE gone - Firefox has twice the security that IE has, and less than one-tenth of 1% the problems of IE. I'll never ever return to IE.
