Why does your rover 200 cut out?

Pinpoint the conditions under which the engine stalls. This will indicate a fuel or air or an electrical problem. There may be dirt in the petrol tank or fuel lines. A can of carburettor cleaning spray will cost around £10. Open the bonnet, remove the air filter tube from the carburettor opening, start the car and return to the engine. Directly behind the carb is the lever that when pshed down, revs the engine. Whilst revving the engine spray the cleaner directly into the carburettor, after a few sprays replace the air filter tube to the carb and let the car run for a few mins whilst occasionally revving the engine. Over richness of the fuel mixture can be caused by a jammed, seized or broken auto-choke. A carbutrretor float level could be too high due to a stuck needle valve or damaged float. Electrical problems in spring/autumn (fall) are often associated with damp or water ingress. Engines are more difficult to start and this can highlight weak plugs/leads/coils/distributor/battery and and bad earthing. Take the opportunity on a damp day, with the engine running and in low light conditions, to open the bonnet and check for sparks or a blue haze around the leads, coil and distributor. A good spray of WD40 will disperse the dampness. Check the air filter. Crankcases vent into the air intake and can over oil the air filter causing it to clog. There are some more sinister reasons but exhaust all the common checks first. Invest in a Haynes or Clymer manual for the car. The fault diagnosis sections are very good.

How do i find tdc on a Chevy s10 4.3l 2wd v6 i am trying to replace the distributor but can't find tdc I'm no mechanic so the most straight forward and simple answer would be great.?

ok very simple i did this weekend pull number on plug then get plastic drinking straw and insert it into plug hole until you hit the piston next ,of course you disconnected the battery, put 15mm socket on main bolt of harmonic balancer and start to turn engine by handfirst will come one mark on the balancer align that withh lower arrow on timing chain cover and you will see another mak that shhould line up with ponter on block check you straw if its a top of cylinder one stroke you are at tdc if not turn engine until marks line up and starw is pshed almost out of spark plug hole.then take distributor and line the rotor up with a small number 6 on distributir base ,you really have to look for it then stab the distributor in and by the way the rotor will not be pointing at number one cylinder email me if you still have problems rcrge@live.com
