Hi,
random misfire on Ford econoline depends on the year of production.Earlier years before 1998, a carburetor is installed which delivers the proper ratio of gas/air mixture to be sent to the engine (motor) for proper combustion in the intake manifold.Specific amount of air is required in different speed so as to maintain the ratio. This is done by the throttle valve or sometimes called the butterfly valve.Check that one first and make sure it's properly placed.
Second is the accelerator pump.MAKE SURE THE PUMP IS WORKING PROPERLY AND NO LAGGING as that will upset the gas/air ratio.
Third check the usual suspects. This includes the plugs, wiring, distributor cap and the pcv valve.
Last replace both gas and air filters if it appears they are clogged from dirt or contaminants. It's over!!!
BELIEVE ME.., THIS ARE THE ONLY REASONS FOR A CAR TO MISFIRE.
"If you like it ..,crown it."
Thank you,
