Probably not; you'll see more and brighter meteors in a meteor shower between about 2 AM and dawn.

The Earth is going around the Sun at about 67,000 miles per hour. The "front" of the Earth is the line of dawn, and the line of sunset is the "back" of the Earth. Look at the bug splats on a car's windshield, and compare those to the bug splats on the BACK window. Lots more on the front, right?

The meteors that you see in the evening are the few that were going fast enough to catch up to the Earth from behind. You'll see lots more looking forward, in the pre-dawn sky.

Have you ever lain laid lained on a country hillside and watched a meteor shower on a warm August evening?

Yes! I have did exactly that. Although a significant fraction of a century ago, it was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I also lied on the same piece of ground and stared at a large, bright comet that commanded a big part of the sky that same summer. I know the name of the comet, but won't mention it because that would be too much like revealing my age. In the interest of honesty and accuracy, I'll confess that it was not exactly a country hillside. It was a grass tennis court at the teen summer camp where I was working. But it was definitely several warm August evenings, and the sky was such an overwhelming display of silent power that counselors and kids alike who had never looked up before were mesmerized.
