In the year Judi Dench won an Oscar for portraying Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love (1998), Cate Blanchett was nominated for portraying the same queen in Elizabeth (1998) and in the sequel, Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007). The two times two people were nominated for playing the same character in the same film, Kate Winslet was involved: She was nominated as Lead Actress while Gloria Stuart was nominated for Supporting as Rose in Titanic (1997). And Kate was nominated as Supporting Actress while Judi Dench was nominated for Lead as the title character in Iris (2001).
