A few possibilities are; 1. the main light control switch is bad(most likely this) 2. fuse(s) blown or fuse kinks 3. shorted wires; sometimes if the truck has rust along the door frame/front seat mounting area/floor board area the wires will corrode and short under the carpet. Also these same set of wires can sometimes run next to or along side the frame rails under the car and do get corroded or damaged.
When the headlights are on.
When turning headlights on, pull out on headlight switch knob.
I had the same problem and after a bit of searching, it ended up being the Park fuse. Fuse Number 4 on my 2001 Dodge Dakota.

Blown fuse, failed switch, broken wire, burnt out bulbs,
check all fuseable links and/or grounds
Start with checking the fuses.

I am having the same problem. Did you get yours fixed? I can't seem to locate the problem area. Changed all of the fuses. Looking for the relay switch to change and then the last thing i can think to replace it the switch. Let me know if you fixed it. Thanks
i just had this problem on my 93 Dakota it was the switch in the dash! it was a very simple fix the part was about $12.00 at autozone and it took about 15 min to fix.
