What I did when the thin metal bands of my heat shields on my exhaust
broke is replace them with stainless steel worm and gear clamps
( so far I have replaced 5 of 6 clamps on my 1995 Ford Explorer exhaust )
Normally the heat shield on top of the converter is the source of the rattle. It is possible the the converter medium itself has broken into pieces resulting in a rattle that sounds as if there are rocks in the converter. If the heat shield and the rest of your exhaust seems secure, it is likely the converter needs to be replaced.
Check heat shield on catalytic converter
Catalytic converters do not rattle. If it does it will need to be replaced as it may block the exhaust. Loose heat shield?
usually a loose heat shield or a muffler rusting out, exhaust parts rust from inside out. My money is on a loose heat shield
Maybe the heat shield on catalyytic converter Maybe the heat shield on catalytic converter Maybe the heat shield on catalytic converter Maybe the heat shield on catalytic converter
Heat shield on your exhaust system?
Loose heat shield... Not a big deal at the beginning untill it gets really unoying later... Best way to fix it by removing the heat shield or replace it with a new one
External heat shield or internal baffle broken
Perhaps a loose baffle in muffler Perhaps loose heat shield on catalytic converter
Check the heat shield on the catalytic converter
if the noise is occurring during acceleration, it is most likely ur heat shield. no worries though because u can simply bend it. this should stop the rattle. however if ur heat shield is internal, you have to put a small pinch in the exhaust. this closes the gap, thus deadening the noise
The shield sounds like its loose all the time. When metal heats up it expands causing it probably to rub on something instead of hitting a object. jaybird1980
