Check the heat shield on the catalytic converter
check the cat shield it may be rotten and rattling If the sound is coming from the engine compartment (or sounds like it might be)and rattles mostly without the clutch pedal being used, but seems to rattles less or even stops with the clutch pedal depressed, it could be the throwout bearing going bad on the clutch assembly.
How do I repair rattle on the rear passenger sliding door of 2002 Odssye EXL. Most notable during the winter
There may be some worn gears/bearings in the transmission, but more likely it's the aligning bushing in the clutch disk.
tell me the mileage and i will let you know about the rattle
check for loose or worn shock absorbers
its loose tighten the pulley
Auroras use only premioum gass
When you push in the clutch if it rattles that is not the transmission but the clutch throw-out bearing. not necesarily the throw out bearing it could also be bad springs or fingers on clutch pressure plate could be cracked or loose fly wheel or could be one or more bad bearings in the gearbox
The possessive form for "the rattle of the snake" is the snake's rattle.

I have just had one go on me, so feel in a good position to answer this. Car - 53 MG ZR 1.4 105bhp. The car had been sitting for a few months. When i started using it again, i discovered a loud rattling noise when i depressed the clutch pedal. However the clutch was still peforming well. within about a week of very short emergancy driving only, the noise had developed into a medium level, constant rattle. Increasing in noise with the clutch depressed. After another couple of weeks, and an essential, longer journey, The noise was quite loud all the time and i could feel vibrations through the pedal. The other day i tried to use it again, and it died. I expeirienced a poping sensation through the pedal as i depressed the clutch, accompinied by a rather loud high pitch squeal. I tried to continue for a bit, but found that the biteing point for the clutch had dropped considerably, meaning that the clutch was still riding slightly. After a couple more corners to get the car back, there was a smell of burning clutch and it had become a bit grindy trying to select a gear. I done a mechanics college course some years ago, have been tinkering with cars ever scince, and have spoken to a friend in a garage, and everything points to the thrust bearing. I hope this helps. :-)
If its chain driven, Could be the timing chain tensioner! Does it also have a rattle driving the vehicle at around 2000 R.P.M?
