Why is it important to know history of fashion?
It is most definitely important to study history of fashion. Whether you want to be in fashion industry or not. If you are planning to become a designer in the future, studying fashion history will give you depth of knowledge. For example, failures and successes from the past that you can learn from are phenomenon. Not only this but it will give you wealth of inspiration. Fashion isn't just about looking good. It has deep connections with social, economic and ethical issues related to the certain era. For example, corsets: at the time women were less social than men and wore a lot of undergarments. It was important for them to keep the hourglass figure to show class distinction etc.
