You will have to redefine the term of hospitality, but Yes definitely. I you define hospitality as the act of taking care of guest, or the act of treating yourself to lavish life. Obviously many Roman emperors, consuls, or pretty much any high society patrice, had the opportunity to go and spoiled themselves at SPAs or in big eating feasts, where people used to eat till full then throw up and keep eating. Also for the outsiders remember that Rome was a very violent and un-trusting society. But either way many merchants from all around the Mediterranean countries came to Rome to bring the many luxuries that were available in that era, like drinking glasses made of volcanic crystal, purple die, metals, etc... They of cource had to stay in port for a few days, so near ports there were many small " Inn's" or whore houses and bars. AJ4mPR, SJ PR

Why does medieval history begin at 500 CE?

Nobody flicked a switch and suddenly proclaimed the medieval era had begun - the transition was really quite blurred.Historians take the end of the ancient Roman Empire as marking the end of ancient history, but in fact the Roman Empire simply fragmented rather than ending on a prticular date. In English history, the abandoning of the province of Britannia by the Romans in 410 AD (the early 5th century) is considered the final date of the area's ancient history., followed immediately by the Saxon/Viking era (or the very early medieval period - there is no absolute agreement on this).500 is simply a nice tidy round number, but it doesn't really tie in with historical fact.Similarly there is no definitive date for the end of the medieval period - 1500 is equally tidy, but many people choose an earlier or later date.
