5000 lbs towing according to Honda and a 1500 payload cap so not bad!
fuel cap may need to be replaced its not holding pressure and setting the light on check with dealer they can test it right there
Seriously Sell the car- Honda has a design defect and will not admit it- I have a $22,000 2010 Honda CRV and the dealer does not have the first clue past putting on a new fuel cap. American Honda told me by phone that they are unaware of the Check Fuel Cap Light problem. This has been going on for years as I read the internet- selling my Honda now before more secrets come to the surface.
My mom has a 2000 Honda Accord Lx and had the same problem. It ended up being a faulty gas cap.
This is most likely either a bad gas cap, or an evaporator bypass valve. Both items can do this. Normally, either will activate a check engine light, but sometimes the part will be on the border of going bad, but just not enough to activate the check engine light. Check the evaporator sensor with your local Honda dealer.
Unfortunilty there are no "emisions lights" on Honda Civics. However there are "check engine light" or "malfuntion indicator lamp". They can be on by many reasons including Engine knock, or something as simple as a loose gas cap.
Check for a torn seal on the cap, look for cracked or disconnected hoses around the tank and engine.
I had the same problem on my 2002 Ford Explorer, after I replaced the gas cap the light turned off
Fuel cap is loose or defective. If it is not loose then replace it with a new one.
yes ifyou have a bad cap $300 is probably for a whole new distributer
If the gas cap needs replacing, the "Check Engine" light will usually come on. Tighten the cap until it clicks 4 or 5 times... if the light goes out, you're cap is good, if the light stays on, replace the cap.
It could simply be your gas cap is loose or not sealing well. This happened on my 99 Toyota Sienna when we lost our cap. After replacing the cap the light went off. I got the advice from a certified Honda mechanic and is apparently a common problem.
