Peter
Peter gave his speech on Pentecost in the morning, specifically at the third hour of the day, which is around 9:00 am.
Converted is a verb.
Acts 2; Peters speech to the crowd ...
I don't think they were so slow. For example in the book of Acts when the Holy Spirit comes at Pentecost there were people from many countries in Jerusalem:Act 2:9 We are from Parthia, Media, and Elam; from Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia; from Pontus and Asia,Act 2:10 from Phrygia and Pamphylia, from Egypt and the regions of Libya near Cyrene. Some of us are from Rome,Act 2:11 both Jews and Gentiles converted to Judaism, and some of us are from Crete and Arabia---yet all of us hear them speaking in our own languages about the great things that God has done!"Many gentiles had converted to Judaism and some were there in Jerusalem at Pentecost they would have heard Peter's speech that day.

The people for a speech is an audience.

There were about 15,000 people at the speech!
I believe you are referring to Dame Mary Peters, who was a gold medal winner in the pentathlon in the 1972 Olympics. In the midst of thanking and acknowledging various people in the audience during his speech in mid-June 2013, President Obama said, "Northern Ireland is hosting the World Police and Fire Games later this year -- which Dame Mary Peters is helping to organize."
