Peter
"About three thousand." See Acts 2:41.
A:Acts 2:41 says that three thousand people were baptised after the speech that Peter gave at Pentecost. When we add to this the five thousand converts on just one other occasion, at Acts 4:4,we should assume that within a short period of time a large proportion of the entire population of around 40,000 in Jerusalem was Christian, in spite of the evidence to the contrary. Uta Ranke-Heinemann (Putting Away Childish Things) says that the whole of Acts of the Apostlesis a work of propaganda aimed at Gentile Christians and Gentiles who have not yet become Christians. If Peter did actually give a speech at Pentecost, we should assume few people were really baptised on that occasion.
Acts 2 records the Day of Pentecost, but it doesn't give the number of believers present.Answer:Acts 2:41 - Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. [NKJV]
Converts. According to Acts 2:41 (NKJV), "about three thousand souls were added to them" [the Christian faith] on that day.
The church began in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost when Peter preached the first gospel message and people responded to that. Act 2:41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
On Pentecost, the crowd reacted with astonishment and confusion as they witnessed the apostles speaking in various languages, which allowed people from different nations to understand them. Some were amazed and intrigued, while others mocked the apostles, suggesting they were drunk. This varied response highlighted the miraculous nature of the event and set the stage for Peter's sermon, which called for repentance and faith in Jesus. The event ultimately led to the conversion of about three thousand people.
