Sadly falling in love is a matter of chemistry, however usually the feeling is mutual; sometimes, we are compatible with very bad people, usually on the girl side. It is important, to critically self-evaluate, and, evaluate the other person too; if you overestimate yourself, you will embarrass yourself, however if you underestimate yourself you will miss out on something wonderful. The thing to do, therefore, is be cold bloodedly honest both about yourself, and the other person and follow your instincts. You should feel no fear towards the other person, if your feelings are sincere; if there is fear, of any kind, then that means that for all your feelings there is something bad about the other person, or, even, about you. Sometimes people can be so extremely selfish, should they fall in love the emotion is simply not compatible with their self-centered nature.
You should always be yourself. If he does not like you in that way then leave it like that. You can't make someone love you. If you try you might mess up your friendship with this guy and I think that it is better to be friends than nothing at all.
