It is probably easier to use iTunes (if you have an iPod). You insert the CD into the computer and it should go to the iTunes screen with the CD songs listed. If it does not come up, you can click on the iTunes icon. You can then click the rip button. After your songs have been ripped, you can go to "all songs." You have to create a file for your iTunes to put the music in. You can check the music you want and add it to that folder. Next, you can plug in the iPod and it will add the songs for you.

you can burn the songs you want to sync onto a CD and then download them to your iPod from the harddrive
First you have to "rip" the CD tracks into a suitable format (usually mp3). Ripping software is available for free on the Web. Then use iTunes to copy the ripped tracks to your iPod.

If you have the songs or videos saved onto your computer you can import files through itunes. You do no have to have a CD to put your songs on your iPod, you just need them saved somewhere on your pc.
Copy CD music to localhost and convert audio to iPod compatible format(mp3, aac, m4a).
load the CD into your computer rip the songs into your computer then sync those songs into your iPod
You have to put the CD in (you should have the internet up but minimized its faster) and wait a sec for the songs on the CD to pop up and if you set your itunes to auto sync it will automatically start importing your songs into your library and it shouldn't delete anything already on your iPod
