How I get the rear liftgate to close on a 2008 Toyota Highlander?

Make sure that the key lock is not 'jammed' in the unlock position and then simply slam it sharply. The latch SHOULD catch and hold it. If not - check for an out of adjustment striker plate (the place on the doorframe where it is supposed to meet and hold the doorlatch), or that the latch itself is not being held in the open (unlocked) position by a piece of debris or something.
