There are roughly 50-67,000 Samoans(permanent residents) , and counting, currently living throughout America. A census that was taken in 1980 states that the Samoan population had grown to about 50,000. Our percentage count in the total population of America is somewhere between 10-20%. Where in the U.S. are we located you ask? The largest population exists in both Oahu, Hawaii and all across the coast of California. The rate of how many Samoans that have entered the U.S. since 1980 is still unknown. My educated guess is that we have more Samoans living here than back in homeland. A lengthly survey, conducted on MySpace, was taken questioning our reason(s) for leaving, what our purpose of being here is, if we are/would consider returning, and if so, when? The following are the results: (survey out of about 100; give or take on that)

*51% are students (35% in high school, 16% in college)

*43% are working

*5% are doing both

*1% other (not doing anything or visiting/on vacation from homeland)

*43% stated they were born in Samoa and left for a better living up here (better schools, jobs, etc.)

*57% stated they were born here

*68% have visited Samoa one time or another (includes Am. Samoa, Samoa, and neighboring islands)

*and lastly, 100% of those that were surveyed stated that were between the ages of 15-40
