September and October were orgininally the seventh (sept) and eighth (oct) months in the calendar. Julius Caesar, and Augustus Caesar both wanted months named after them - so July (for Julius) and August (for Augustus were inserted into the calendar - moving both September and October back two months.

Because October was the 8th month of the roman calender and September was the 7th.But,they changed it!
8 months have R's in their names. They are: January, February, March, April, September, October, November, and December.
There used to be ten months in a year, but two Romans put their names as a month; so now there are twelve. September used to be the seventh month (Sept means seven); and October used to be the eighth month (Oct means eight).
