Well, for Japan it was wonderful because they wiped a lot of our Navy in one attack. But it also got us involved in WWII, which inevitably wasn't good for Japan.
From what I have been taught, the US let Japan attack, which gave the US a reason to join the war. It indirectly led to the end of Hitler's reign and all of Europe, Japan, and the US became Allies.
