Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were an American couple with strong Communist leanings who were charged with, and convicted of, Conspiracy to Commit Espionage and for Passing US Atomic Secrets to the Soviet Union in 1951. The sentence, death by electrocution, was carried out on June 19, 1953.
Testifying and also convicted were Harry Gold, Morton Sobell, and David and Ruth Greenglass (Ethel's brother and sister-in-law), who testified against the Rosenbergs to save themselves. Only the Rosenbergs were executed.
