Best Answer

They do not hold themselves to be different than anyone else, and, in fact, they aren't different. They simply live apart from the general population in order to protect their families from ungodly behavior, and they adhere very closely to the teachings of The Bible, unlike many who claim "the bible says it, I believe it, and that settles it."

The plain sects which most of us call Amish, are distinguishable not because they are better, more moral, than others, but because their unusual lifestyle serves as a reminder to themselvesthat they need to obey God.

Do the Amish mingle with other people?

The Amish typically prefer to socialize within their own community and adhere to a more isolationist lifestyle. They limit interaction with outsiders to avoid outside influences that may conflict with their values and beliefs. However, some Amish communities may engage with non-Amish individuals for necessary interactions such as business or medical needs.

Why do the Amish not read these questions?

Most Amish don't use technology. They see it as a distraction, and they have other religious views about it. Each Amish community has a sort of "rulebook" called an Ordnung that is different for each community- for example, one community might be allowed to have a telephone for the entire community, and for another it wouldn't be so. Also, a lot (NOT ALL) Amish people don't feel comfortable with associating themselves with non-Amish peoples and/or don't feel a need to explain themselves. Some people were Amish when they were younger, though, and have "converted" to a non-Amish lifestyle, so don't be surprised to see answers from once-Amish people.
