You must score over a 50 on the ASVAB just to qualify for a bonus, then your ASVAB scores must be able to be qualified for a job that is offering a bonus, not all jobs or branches offer a bonus. Don't get to concerned about a bonus be more concerned about the job that you are choosing for the next few years, money will only bring temporary happiness but a good job will lead to ultimate satisfaction.
Enlistment bonuses are paid to you through your Direct Deposit after you have successfully completed all training requirements YOU agreed to complete within you initial enlistment contract.
If you are to receive a $20,000.00 sign on bonus for a 5 year enlistment in a specific job, you will receive $10,000.00 (minus taxes) once you have completed your training requirements and have in-processed in to your first duty station, the remaining $10,000.00 will be divided up and paid on the anniversary date of the initial bonus payment for the remaining 4 years. ($2,500.00 a year minus taxes for the remaining 4 years)
There are bonuses, but you must not have enlisted before, these are called non prior service bonuses, and they aren't just available to anybody who decides to join; your enlistment bonus will be determined if you have a critical skill that the Army needs. If you have that skill, you get the bonus. There are other bonuses available once you are in, but for enlisment, you must have no prior service and must have a skill that the Army needs. You don't need any classes to get into the army. You need to score high on you ASVAB test. The Army requires a minimum AFQT (ASVAB) Score of 31 to qualify for enlistment. However, in recent months, the Army has been approving more and more waivers for those with scores as low as 26 (Category IVA). To qualify for certain enlistment incentives, such as enlistment bonuses, an Army recruit must score a minimum of 50.
Yes, that's why so many were eager to join. In addition to their steady pay and bonuses, they received Roman citizenship when their enlistment was up.
An enlistment bonus for the US Army can be up to $40,000.00. However the bonuses are dependent upon the individual scoring over a 50 on the ASVAB and only certain jobs offer a bonus and vary from day to day or month to month. The values are dependent upon the needs of the Army and the needs for that select job. Keep in mind the bonus is an incentive to enlistment and not a reason to enlist in to the US Army or any Branch of the Military, you have to look at the other benefits that you could possible receive and weigh them against what you would get in the civilian sector.
Enlistment bonuses are paid at the conclusion of basic training. If you have concluded basic and have not received your bonus payment, contact the finance officer of your unit (if deployed) or send a request for information to post finance (if permanently assigned stateside or at a non-combat installation).

There is no more mandatory enlistment. It was removed by the "Bundestag" in 2011.
There is no set time when a bonus has to be paid. Bonuses have been paid on any given day. They have been paid quarterly, yearly, monthly, or weekly.
This depends on several things including AFSC(Air Force Specialty Code), prior service, education, and length of enlistment. Several AFSC have enlistment bonuses in excess of $25,000 while others have bonuses that are much lower.
