Both act as a land bridge between North and South America, are crisscrossed by the Sierra Madre mountain range and have coasts on both the Pacific and Caribbean Sea. Also, both are the result of the interaction between the North American, Caribbean and Cocos tectonic plates.

However, as Mexico is much larger than Central America, it has much more geographical features, including coasts in the Gulf of Mexico, more mountain ranges (Mexico has three of them) and a wider variety of terrains.
