Pureblood heartless release no hearts when you defeat them. While Emblem heartless ( the ones with the heart with the X mark) actually releases hearts and in 358/2 days, Roxas collects those hearts.

What is a rare heartless in Kingdom Hearts 2?

A Heartless is a fictional enemy in the video game Kingdom Hearts. The Heartless are emotionless and empty creatures that devour worlds and embody everything that is darkness. There are two different kinds of heartless:Pureblood Heartless and Emblem Heartless.Pureblood Heartless are the most common, but have a small range of species. Common pureblood heartless include Shadows, Neoshadows and certain bosses like Darkside. Pureblood Heartless do not release hearts, unlike the Emblem Heartless. When a Heartless is destroyed, it's heart gathers with other hearts into an entity known as Kingdom Hearts, which is often used by the antagonists of the game.Emblem Heartless are a sort of artificial Heartless that have a symbol of a heart located on their body. They have a wide variety of species. The Emblem Heartless must be destroyed by the Keyblade, otherwise the hearts they release will gather back into Heartless again.

What are emblem Heartless?

Emblem Heartless are not a new form of Heartless. They are creatures that bear the insignia of the Hearless. Unlike the Shadows, these Heartless extinguish hearts when defeated, whereas creatures such as Shadows or Neoshasows are Pure Heartless and do not realease a heart.

Why do Pureblood Heartless release no hearts?

They are the actual Heartless. The "Emblem Heartless" were made by Ansem the Wise. This is one of Ansem's Reports.Ansem Report 8 - Win the Hades Cup in The Olympus ColiseumThere is no doubt that the Heartless are deeply connected to the people's hearts. Further study may unravel both their motivations and the mysteries shrouding the heart. As a start, I have built a device that artificially creates Heartless. By recreating the conditions that spawn the Heartless naturally, I should be able to produce them artificially. This device is the culmination of all my research thus far. The machine's test run successfully created a Heartless. This may be a step toward creating a heart from nothing. The artificially and naturally created Heartless showed nearly identical traits. But the two types remain distinct for the purpose of the experiment. So, I will mark the ones that are created artificially.

Are all Emblem Heartless created from Ansem the Wise's studies?

Yes.
