How are The Crusades relevant today?
The Crusades are relevant today as a reminder of the evil that unbridled faith can create. They are relevant as a reminder of the destruction that religious intolerance can produce. And they are a reminder that religion can be used as a cover for selfish purposes, by people with the ability to control or influence the masses.
The Crusades achieved nothing good for Christianity, but led to centuries of ill-feeling. Even today, the word 'Crusade' has nothing but negative connotations for many Muslims. If perhaps Muslims of good will remind themselves and others of the Crusades, then the parallel notion of jihad will be eliminated.
