Blood is classified into groups based on the antigens present or absent on the surface of the red blood cells. Antigens may be in form of proteins, carbohydrates, glycoproteins or glycolipids.

They are classified by the unmutated version of blood (type O) and by the two two different mutations (Type-A, and Type-B). Also taken into accout is the Rh factor which determines the +/-.The Rh factor genetic information is also inherited from our parents, but it is inherited independently of the ABO blood type alleles. There are 2 different alleles for the Rh factor known as Rh+ and Rh-.

Type

A- first mutation recognized

B- second

AB- caused geneticly from a Type A parent & Type B parent

O- unmutated
