No one has a definite answer on this issue, however we do know that blue is a dilution from Black. So many people think that blue nose pit bulls came from different lines of black pitbulls.

Actually if you speak with older breeders and such the blue pit bulls happened by accident. At one point they thought it was something to a genetic fault. But it most oftened accured when a black and a red pit bull were bred together that is why a lot of blue pit bulls have like red tints when they are in the light
Blue pit bulls are mixed breed Staffordshire Bull Terriers which are bred to be a faded color of black that resembles the color blue. They tend to be short dogs that are low to the ground. Many people will also consifer any pit bull that is the same color to be a blue pit bull, refering to their color. In that case it could be a purebred APBT, Amstaff, or Staffordshire
I will give it a try for you, but, I am sure that i will miss something. Ok. Bull Terrier, (Spuds Mckenzie), comes in a spotted, or brindle. I think it was bred to chew on the stomach of cows to tenderize meat. American Pit Bull. I think the biggest, used for fighting for some time, then dropped off, don't know about markings available, and, havent seen one of those in years. I think they were purely bred here in the U.S. for fighting. Staffordshire pit bull terrier. Exactly like the Am Staff, only smaller. People around here are calling the pocket pits, and acting they are something new! Whatever. Anyway, that is as close as I can come.
The Pit Bull is not an AKC recognized breed. The Bull Terrier is its own AKC breed & comes in white or colored. It was bred to be a vermin control dog and also for fighting. There is also the Miniature Bull Terrier, also in white or colored. There is also the Staffordshire Bull Terrier which is a stockier smaller version of the American Staffordshire Terrier but is a separate breed. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is also recognized by the AKC and has been around a pretty long time. AKC, I think they are getting ready to recognize them, not sure yet.
There are many conditions that can cause loss of hair in patches over the dog's coat. That is why I recommend you take your dog to your local Veterinarian to be checked out. It could be a skin problem caused from feeding a poor dog food or it could be mange which is caused by mites, either demodex or sarcoptic mites, each needs to be treated differently. It would take skin scrapings done by the Vet to detect the mange mites and also to see which mite is causing the problem, if that is the case. Make sure you are feeding a good name dog food and not some generic cheap dog food that has wheat, by products, corn, soy, beet pulp, etc. in it.
