In dictatorships, voluntarily or involuntarily, everyone is forced (compelled) to vote for the dictator and usually, the dictator is always the top candidate among one or two other candidates. The opposite is the case in presidential democracies i.e people are free to choose from a wide option of candidates.
A dictatorship is a form of government characterized by a single leader or group of leaders and little or no toleration for political pluralism or independent programs or media. According to other definitions, democracies are regimes in which "those who govern are selected through contested elections"; therefore dictatorships are "not democracies".
Usually, in democracies, differences are settled by elections.
