Both are conformed by the building blocks (atoms) that compose the universe. However, an element is the most basic form of matter, including oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), carbon (C) or hydrogen (H). Compounds on the other hand, are substances made of several atoms bonding together, such as water (H2O), methane (CH4) and even the naturally occurring forms of elements, such as "free oxygen" (O2) and "free nitrogen" (N2).

I'm pretty sure that an element is just a singular thing like say Hydrogen, or Selenium, than a compound is where you combind elemts like coming out with H2O
