How are Adolf Hitler and Charles Degaulle alike?

There are many parallels between Hitler and de Gaulle in terms of their personalities and overall ambitions. Hitler was highly arrogant and overall ignorant (aside from his opinion on Jews, he showed ignorance during Operation Barbarossa, demanding his generals make military decisions which cost Germany greatly in their effort). De Gaulle also proved to be a very arrogant and ignorant individual, often butting heads with Churchill and Roosevelt during some of the most crucial moments of World War II. He was quite clumsy too, in one case boasting about a British plan to attack a Vichy port to the public, giving the Vichy time to prepare themselves so that they could repel the British. Basically, he had a habit of becoming an obstructive nuisance when it came to the Allied war effort.

Furthermore, both were authoritarian in their politics, with Hitler wanting full control over Germany and Europe, and de Gaulle often proclaiming himself as the one true leader of France even before the Allied Invasion of Normandy, while he was in exile in the UK.

On the other hand, Hitler and de Gaulle are different in that they both acquired and used their power differently. Hitler acquired his power through legal means so that he could easily overthrow the other German parties and establish himself and the National Socialist German Worker's Party as the supreme authority in Germany from Hitler's election to his death (of course Hitler died in 1945, and thus died prematurely). Meanwhile, de Gaulle; despite his authoritarianism, acquired leadership over France by legal means like Hitler, but did not establish himself as France's eternal dictator, instead playing mostly within the legal rules and constitution.
