Many molds are poisonous to mammals.
They are not.
Many molds are poisonous to mammals.
harmful because it makes you sick
Usually molds are harmful. THough there are some which don't exert any significant effects.
Even the most benign of fungi can become harmful in large quantities as an allergen.
Some molds are dangerous, in fact, to my knowledge, most are. Some are used for medicines, such as penicillin, which is used to combat many sicknesses. Others are very dangerous, such as black mold, which will grow in damp places in places such as indoors. Most molds on foods are forms of penicillin, but it is not wise to eat it. -Molds can be toxic in high amounts. Not all black mold is is dangerous, however stachybotrys chartarum is dangerous in very small amounts. It is a blackish slimy mold, and it's spores do not become airborn easily.
Water molds, or oomycetes, can be both harmful and useful. Some species, like those causing the Irish Potato Famine (Phytophthora infestans), are detrimental to agriculture and ecosystems. However, others play beneficial roles in decomposing organic matter and recycling nutrients in aquatic environments. Additionally, certain water molds are studied for their potential in biocontrol and bio-remediation applications.
Not all mold is toxic. Certain molds excrete toxic compounds called mycotoxins which can be harmful or lethal. But not even all mycotoxins are harmful-penicillin is a mycotoxin for example. Another issue leading to health concerns with mold is how much a person is allergic to certain molds. But harmful molds often grow in indoor spaces that are dark and damp-such as the inside of walls that are not properly insulated, and it is the landlord's responsibility to keep the house mold free. Below is an article on toxic mold.
Black mold (Stachybotrys chartarum) is a common household mold that can be harmful if inhaled, potentially causing respiratory issues. Alternaria and Aspergillus molds can also cause allergic reactions in some individuals. It's best to prevent mold growth by keeping indoor spaces dry and well-ventilated.
Bread tends to form two different common molds, black mold (Aspergillus niger) and green mold (Pennicilium notatum - from which Penicillin is derived). As far as I know, neither of these molds is particularly harmful to humans.
Fungicides are used to kill molds and harmful fungi on plants, surfaces, or materials. They work by disrupting the growth and reproduction of the fungi, helping to control and prevent their spread. It is important to follow safety instructions and use fungicides as directed to minimize impact on the environment and human health.
