The same? They were just about as opposite as you could get. In fact, the only thing they had in common was that they were both born in Kentucky.
Lincoln's reputation remains as the most talented and capable leader the American people ever had. And he was from a poor background, from which he moved up through his enthusiasm for law and politics.
Davis was an old-style Southern aristocrat and ex-army officer, who looked the part as a symbolic Confederate, but who proved to be way out of his depth at trying to lead either his Generals or the civilian public. As President, he was an utter failure.
