A racehorse has the same basic needs that are met in the same way as most other non-racing horses.
Feed and water: Bought and supplied by the owner, trainer, and groom. Typically hay and high calorie grains.
Shelter: This is typically a stall at a racetrack, but can be a stall or run-in at the owner or trainers farm.
Farrier: A farrier visits the horse every 4 to 6 weeks and trims the hooves, possibly shoeing the horse if needed.
Veterinarian: This is probably the biggest difference between racehorses and other non-racing horses. A racehorse will see a equine veterinarian far more than a 'common' horse. This is due to higher vaccination needs and pre and post race check-ups.
All other needs are basically the same and are supplied in the same way as other horses.
