Wisdom, or Lady Wisdom, seems to have been a minor embarrassment to both Judaism and Christianity. Mention of Wisdom began after the worship of Asherah was banned. Asherah seems to have been the bride of God (YHWH) as evidenced by two recent archaeological finds, and some see Wisdom as the embodiment of Asherah. There was no doubt that Asherah was a goddess, but Wisdom is not worshipped in the Bible and seems to be a spirit who was present with God at creation, but not necessarily a goddess. The principal biblical reference to Wisdom is the Book of Proverbs, but much later material, that talks about wisdom in the philosophical sense, dilutes these references, as does the practice in some English translations of spelling Wisdom without a capital W ('wisdom') where the context is for Lady Wisdom. One view then, is that Wisdom was, like her predecessor, the bride of God. A common view is that Wisdom was the bride of Solomon. Another is that she was the bride of Jesus, or at least the 'type' for a bride of Jesus. Another is that she was the 'type' for Mother Mary.
