What role does the gallbladder play and how is it related to the liver?

The liver is connected by hepatic bile duct and the gallbladder by the cystic bile duct joining to form the common bile duct which joins with the pancreatic duct to form the ampulla of Vater, which opens into the duodenum.

From here it common bile duct. spincture of Oddi divert it to gall bladder. Where it is concentrated 30 times. And realeased during digetion of lipids. Under the influence of hormone cholecystokinine, gall bladder contracts and secretions are released at the center of second part of duodenum. Along with secreations of pancrease, as the spincture of Oddi relaxes. Surprisingly when you remove the gall bladder, when multiple stones are there, digestion is not affecetd. Probably gall bladder was already functionless and so patient is used to it.
