The north and the south both wanted different things. They were both willing to fight to the death to get it though. The south wanted to be able to use slavery for their cotton and/or tobacco and/or indigo (these were really important for them back then) plantations. The north thought that that was wrong. They think that all men (and women) are created equal, colored or not.
It should always be remembered that before the US Civil War, Americans whatever their location in the USA had allot in common as Americans. They for the most part religious people, glad that they had a large degree of liberty, more than in most other nations, and were patriotic.
The US Civil War did not change their basic identities, and until the war, slavery yes was an issue, but not a new one at all.
The best answer to this question is that during the Civil War, slavery existed in the North and in the South. Certainly the number of slaves in the Northern states was small in comparison to the South.
They had the same culture, both spoke English, had poor medical care also raised regional units.
Both of them are apart of the u.s.
during the civil war the south and the north have in common that they use machines, they used boats for transportation and they had plantations.
During Reconstruction, many black slaves stayed in the South after the Civil War. With the exception of being enslaved, they were often treated the same as they had before they were freed. Slaves who migrated to the North were on the whole treated better.
The north considered the main issue in the war to be slavery. The south considered the main issue in the war to be state's rights. So as you see they weren't even fighting over the same issues!
The North and the South began to think of each other as different sections because of the differences in economy and politics. The North was more dependent on industry and controlled most of the factories in America while the South believed that America should have stayed as a farming frontier. The North was also very opposed to slavery as most abolitionists were from the North. The South was being controlled by Federal power which resided in the North at that time, and the South wanted to be free of that Federal power. Because of this, the South's yearning for separation of Federal power eventually turned into longing to be free of the North. The South also did not want President Lincoln to be elected because they believed he was opposed to slavery as well. The North wanted Lincoln as president for the very same reason. Overall, the disagreements between the North and South prior to the Civil War produced sectionalism.
There was slavery in the north for the same reason there was slavery in the south, that is to work at labourous jobs.
The same as after
Same as after, mostly Christian.
during the civil war the south and the north have in common that they use machines, they used boats for transportation and they had plantations.
Economic conditions in the South were doing fine. Same can be said for the Northern States before the war. Also, the industrialization of the North was continuing at a rapid pace. Not so much of that in the South.
Well. Not all of the North were Abolostionists, Same in the South, not all of us supproted Slavery.
One and the same people under one and the same government.
During Reconstruction, many black slaves stayed in the South after the Civil War. With the exception of being enslaved, they were often treated the same as they had before they were freed. Slaves who migrated to the North were on the whole treated better.
About the same as Union and Confederates did in the US Civil War...they spoke the same language but had different accents.
A civil war is when 2 factions fight to control the same government. The south wanted their own government so the American 'Civil War' was not a civil war. It was and is the south's view that the north invaded the south, starting a war of aggression.
The North and South both still disagreed on slavery . The South however , slowly rejoined the Union . After the Civil War , black people were under segregation . They weren't allowed to do all the same things as white people until 1962 .
It is a civil WA. That is why when the south and north fought, it was called civil.war...
The presidents of the south were the same as the north. When the south seceded from the union, Jefferson Davis became president of the southern states. George Washington Thomas Jefferson James Madison James Monroe Andrew Jackson James Polk
