I would to categorize a few terms in this way.
In terms of
SPEED: The Cars nowadays have more horsepower than their counterparts.
ENGINES: in-line engines have been replaced by ( not entirely) v series, radial engines, rotary engines (wankel engine- my fav) etc...
DYNAMICS: The cars are more aerodynamic nowadays which help in increasing the speed and also downforce.
BODY WORK: They can withstand heavy crashes which be tested during Crash test ( material- Carbon fibre- strongest material due to the presence of carbon atoms)
They are Eco friendly
