"trains" are different because they run on fixed rails and cannot travel off of these rails. also, they are usually powered by steam or coal and almost all of todays automobiles run off of fossil fuels, such as gasoline or diesel fuel or electricity. however, some modern trains have utilized this technology as well and they are now operating with the same source of power.
