Water and minerals are transported within the plant by the Xylem vessels (mainly in an upward direction); these are part of the vascular system which also includes Phloem vessels.

Phloem transports the products of photosynthesis within the plant (mainly in a downward direction)

Why would the plant die if the phloem and xylem is removed?

It would die as water and minerals absorbed from the roots cannot be transported to other parts of the plant.Food made by the leaves cannot be transported to other parts of the plants too. So,the leaves and stems do not get the water and minerals absorbed by the roots. The roots and stems also cannot get the food made by the leaves.Hence, the plant will die eventually.

How are water and dissolved minerals from the soil absorbed into plants?

From the roots

How do the minerals are absorbed and reach to all parts of the plants?

Stem is the only one that will transport the water, food, mineral salts and sugar(food) to all parts of the plant. Because of stems, the water and mineral salts get to the leaves and other parts of a plant.

how is nitrogen transferred from the atmosphere to plants?

Nitrogen absorbed by the roots is either metabolized in the roots or is transported to the aerial part via the xylem. How N is transported depends on the form absorbed (NO3- or NH4+ ) and the metabolism of the roots.

How are minerals transported by plants?

Plants employ osmosis to move minerals into plant root cells. To transport minerals to the plant proper, energy is required so active transport is employed.

What process do plants absorb minerals?

Diffusion, ion exchange and mass exchange is the mechanism of active absorption of minerals in plants.

Where is water and minerals from absorbed into the blood?

Water and minerals are absorbed through the intestines. But some minerals like magnesium can be absorbed through the skin.

How water get into plants leaves?

Does plants absorb phosphate from the soil or from water?

The plants absorb minerals from the soil, since it is wet. When the soil is dry, there is no way for plants to absorb anything. That's what rain do, by making the soil wet, so that plants can absorb minerals through their roots.

Where do plants get the minerals they need?

There are 14 essential plant nutrients. Carbon and oxygen are obtained from the atmosphere, and the other nutrients are absorbed from the soil.
