The same way a blind person does all the time. Your brain is aware of many things that life requires, every day, without conscious thought. You are normally able to move your extremities without thinking about it. If you shut your eyes, your brain will simply do what it normally does, but without visual input. This works fine until something changes that you would have been aware of if your visual input was available.
But you've made mistakes before: Consider walking down poorly lit stairs that you believe you know well, but you miscount the number of steps. If there is one step less, you might sprain your ankle, slamming your foot against the unexpected floor. If there is one step more, you will likely fall down and perhaps hurt yourself, because there is no floor for you to step on.

So this means that sponges do not have an open or a closed circulatory system, because they don't have one at all.
