That depends on how you define awesome. Personally, I think it is very awesome. The graphics were cutting edge at the time, and still look good today, especially at higher settings.
The gameplay is fun, and stays fun for a long while. However, if you're playing on the PC, user-made content can potentially keep you playing for months after you've finished the base game.
