Resolution dependent is an image that is composed of a particular amount number of pixels. The quality of the image that is produced depends on the amount of pixels.
You can retain 100% quality only with vector graphic. When resizing pixels you can never retain 100% quality, some pixels will be added or deleted depend on type of resizing: downsampling (make image smaller) or upsampling (make image larger).
Pixels is a measure of the image size, each pixel is a dot. This has nothing to do with quality, more megapixels DOES NOT mean better quality pictures. A 10 megapixel camera has 10 million pixels (or dots) per image.
Changing the image resolution will affect the file size of the image and the quality of the image. Image resolution is measure in DPI, which is Dots Per Inch, this means that if you increase the resolution then the DPI will increase and the quality of the image will get better as a result as there are more pixels that make up the image, so the image will be more distinct and sharper. When the image resolution is increased the image has more pixels, this is the exact opposite to the compression techniques, this means that the file will get a lot bigger as the number of pixels increases. Decreasing the resolution, however, will make the image quality lower but will reduce the file size.
Turn off Resample Image in Image Size dialog in Photoshop. This will freeze pixels in your image so you will work with existing pixels, and will not ruine details (pixelate) but physical width and height of image will change and you will have 6 time smaller image, for example before 20 x 20 inches will change to 4 x 4 or something like that.
Mega-pixels do not equate to the quality of the image.More accurately, mega-pixels equate to the image size. The bigger the amount of mega-pixels, the bigger the image can come out to be. This does not, however, guarantee a great picture.In fact, cellphone's built-in cameras "boast" about the amount of their mega-pixels. Sellers try and persuade consumers that the amount of mega-pixels equate to the image quality; do not be fooled, however. Although some cellphone's built-in cameras may be larger in their mega-pixel value compared to those of other digital cameras, this absolutely does not mean that the built-in camera's picture quality will be better than another digital camera.
The size of the image is 2.67 inches x 2.83 inches (width x height) when printed at 240 pixels per inch.
When you enlarge the image, you can see alot of the pixels depending on the pixel count or resolution of the image. There is a definite pixel count that will not change when the image is enlarged or shrank so the pixels either squish together or become to large that they change the resolution and quality of the image.
Facebook accepts JPG and PNG files, but scales them to a maximum of 604 pixels on either of the X or Y axis (i.e. maximum width and height of the image is limited to 604 pixels). This is done automatically when uploading the image.

When you change physical size of image in Width and Height fields its not necessary to change resolution. If you publish image to web you are inerested in Width and Height of image not in resolution, if you gonna print image then you must look in Resolution, most printers need 300 pixels per inch to print. Changing Resolution field will automaticaly change Width and Height of image in Photoshop (turn on Resample Image) and you will get best possible result with pixels you have.
