You can choose what to use from:
@ An aquarion with a wire or mesh lid (Used for fish)
@ A bird cage with a bit of modification (The most expensive usualy)
@ A gerbilarium (Basically a hand made thing with a pull out floor to clean and only cleaned every 2-3 months)
@ A hamster cage, but these allow and gerbil to flick waste and food through the bars and most of the time aren't big enough.
A gerbilarium is best! You buy a fish tank and fill it with play sand, then let them play! These cages are the best because it is like their natural environment and you only have to clean them out every 4-5 months!
5 gallon short-term and 10 gallon long-term. No gerbil should be kept alone unless absolutely nessacary. Gerbils are very social animals and should be kept in clans.
what you should do is put them in a tank ten gallons for every gerbil make sher there is a wire lid or something to let in a lot of air and get a lid clam gerbils can jump very high.
A gerbilarium is best(a 10 gallon glass box with a wire lid),but they're safe enough in wire cages because mine is in a wire cage and he has only escaped once when I left the door open
A 10 gallon glass aquarium tank with a weighted mesh lid to prevent them from escaping.
One can purchase stereo system for gerbil cage at most pet stores such as Petco, or at electronic stores such as Fry's Electronics and Best Buy, for instance.
After 24 hours you can hold your gerbil. Or in other words, one day.
Probably not. But I read a book in my school library about gerbils and the author of it said that one of his friends put a gerbil and a mouse together in a cage and they worked out OK.
Yes, But you need to train your cat to stay off the table or whatever your going to keep the gerbil on. And just for in-case your cat goes on the table wondering, "What's making that noise?", you want to make sure it's a heavy glass or wire cage not plastic. Besides if it is a plastic cage your gerbil will chew through it and escape. If your gerbil escapes your cat will find it catch it or kill it. Also remember to give your cat as much attention as before you got the gerbil or it will become jealous, and it might get so crazy that it will find a way into the cage and kills it. And one more thing remember that they will be a big responsibility.
I have experienced the death of one sister gerbil in the case of two sister's/cage mates. Believe it or not the living gerbil will actually burie the other and continue on living as if she's not there. Unless the gerbils are starving they wont eat the dead cage mate.
if your gerbil chews its cage bars, then eventually it will wear away the hair on the top of its nose. if its in a pair maybe the other one has hurt it or it might have fleas/mights.
You can purchase a gerbil cage at your local Pet Co store. You can also purchase one online from the Amazon website and have it shipped directly to your house.
Yes, but just a damp one. And make sure your gerbil is comfortable with it. He/She must be completely dry before being put back in his/her cage.
i bought mine at petsmart they sell vet assured gerbils there and they live the longest if you buy them there, but if you do get one get two they love to cuddle but only get them from the same family. I would advise a breeder. They are much healthier and friendlier.
well...a two to three foot cage is recommended for one gerbil and if you two most likely a three foot cage or a four foot cage would be best to make sure you don't spend to much money ...make sure you have two of the same kind of gerbil..boy and boy ...girl and girl because when gerbils have babies they have alot and then you need a bigger cage or multiple cages. =P
If you have more than one gerbil then maybe the other one scratched it when they were play-fighting. Also your gerbil could be alergic to the type of bedding you have in the cage. It is normally aspen and other man-made wood products
One male and one female until babies are born, then put him in a cage of his own.I think 2 females can keep on living in one cage, first call your local pet store and askit depends what type of hamstersyrians don't get along after a certain age but dwarf Russians are better in groups- contact pet store
