A twin bed is actually big enough for only one person--about 36" wide--and is sometimes called a single bed. The twin designation may be because there were often two in a bedroom. A double bed is big enough for two, about 54" wide, as I recall.
King size bedding would be much too big for a double bed. A double bed is 2 sizes smaller than a king size and therefore the bedding would be way too big to fit onto the double bed.
A full size bed is 54 by 74 inches. Full size beds are slowly being phased out in the United States.
A twin mattress is 75 inches long and 38 inches wide. This is smaller than a double bed, and is considered a bed for a child. Two adults would not fit on a twin size bed.
