A good rule of thumb is you likely use about 20-30% of desktop hard drive space for personal data, documents, music, pictures..etc. So you'd probably need an external hard drive of at least 150gb. That's a cinch considering how inexpensive as external hard drives are these days. The average price for 400gb drive is $60. The top brands are Seagate & Western Digital.
