On average, women in the 16th century gave birth some 6-7 times during their marriage. Statistically, some 12% of these children would die in the first year, another 24% would die before the age of 6 and another 24% before the age of 16. So, in total 60% of all children would never reach maturity. An average Elisabethan family - depending on who already had been born and who already had died - would consist of some 5 persons, including the parents.
It should be remebered that in this age house servants and apprentices were usually considered part of the family, and parents when no longer able to fend for themselves often also moved in. But the above numbers are correct if you only count parents and children.
some of the most averaged sized families would be 12 people -13 people but, only half of them would live and spread the name of your family
Some had none, some had many.
